“When I was young and new to Paris, I wanted to be like a Parisian woman. I tried to walk like them, dress like them. I’m English and you’re American, but there really is something different we both feel in Paris. Yes, and yet, French society is so very structured from the education system to what is viewed as correct behavior. Where does all that creativity come from?

Paris has changed my life. From her I have learned to love me, the real me, no matter where I am living. That is a priceless gift.

I began my Textile Tours of Paris in the Sentier district of Paris in the 2nd arrondissement, which is historically the district for all the textile and garment manufacturing. Hatmakers, lace makers, bead makers were all here. This is still where all the haberdashery products are still sold. The best threads, beads, sequins, patterns, needles, hoops and more, are all in this area even today. Walking those streets and passages is like walking through history.

I like to say we come to Paris to find a bit of ourselves because everything you imagine you’d find in Paris, is already inside you.
